Eskasoni

Eskasoni is the largest Mi’kmaw community in the world. Located along the shores of the beautiful Bras d’Or Lake in Unama’ki (Cape Breton), it’s home to close to five thousand L’nu’k (People).

Eskasoni is a vibrant community with its own government, businesses, fishing enterprises, environmental organizations, tourism initiatives and a school board that manages education from primary through high school, including Mi’kmaw immersion.

Wela’lioq, thank you to everyone for welcoming our Reporting in Mi’kma’ki course into community. Eskasoni offers our journalism students the chance to engage with Elders, in cultural activities, hear the Mi’kmaw language spoken in everyday conversations, and fully understand how L’nu’k are knowledgeable, generous, so interconnected but also diverse.
